I was thinking about the size differences that people have mentioned between the TOS Enterprise and JJ Abrams Enterprise.

I took a look at the cutaway of the TOS Enterprise and pictures of the JJ Enterprise and have come to the conclusion that the "massive" JJ Enterprise shuttlebay isn't actually all that massive compared to the TOS Enterprise shuttlebay.

The TOS bay is about 3 decks in height, and the JJ bay is about 3 decks in height. The JJ bay is slightly wider and has landing areas on a platform at about half the height of the bay... so it's lie a big E... the bottom deck has landing areas, the middle deck has landing areas, and the top is the roof. There is enough room in the TOS bay to do this as well, but because it's more narrow it would have less parking available.

So I'd say the JJ Enterprise isn't all that much bigger, it just uses space more efficiently.

Scale issues and conflicts takes a big part in the universe of Star Trek.
I already saw pictures where the new "E" is bigger than the new Galactica. I think that if all is bigger, except the shuttlebays, than the new "E" must be a bit deformed. :D
