So, I'm messing around with 3ds Max 2011... and I've also been playing Sim City 4, which lets you build your own models and stuff to use in the game, I started making a few things in gmax, the free version of 3ds Max that's used for video games that allow user created content and that's pretty much it... anyway...
gmax
The Fort Langley Big House, it's the building that the papers were signed in making British Columbia an official government. The real version was rebuilt in the 1930's from the plans of the original which was built in like 1827, it sits in the Fort Langley National Historic Site and displays how the Fort's governor and other higher ups lived back then, it also features a room upstairs with rotating exhibits, the last one I went to last summer was a Native archaeology exhibit, it's incomplete and will likely need to restart it in 3ds Max because it's a PITA to convert.

Top Notch Hamburgers is a restaurant in Austin Texas that was featured in the cult classic movie Dazed and Confused, the mesh is incomplete, and I will likely start over in 3ds Max from the ground up.

And 3ds Max
This house is a classic American farmhouse design that I found in a home plans book from 2007 at the local library... it's 1800 sq feet or 167 sq meters, 3 bedrooms, 2 and a half bathrooms, 2 car garage, etc... I just started texturing the brick portions to see if I could do some non-repeating textures, and figure out how to texture in 3ds Max 2011.

So here's my impression of 3ds Max 2011 so far:
It's a nice program, not too hard to use, doesn't crash or corrupt files as much as gmax. The Modifiers drop down list is a little strange compared to what I'm used to with Lightwave, but I can see some definite advantages to how 3ds Max 2011 operates.
